Hijacked by Work or Family? How to Get Your Life Back

25/8/2016

by Suzie Doscher

It can happen without you even noticing. Suddenly your life no longer feels like it is your own. Overwhelming work demands, busy family schedules, even modern technology add stress by making you accessible 24/7. Environmental issues that deplete your physical wellbeing end up as priorities, while you and your own personal life, values, beliefs, thoughts, wishes and dreams come in second place - if not third.
In short, your attention ends up being stretched in too many directions with no time left to think about yourself.
Ask yourself the following questions to help you get your life back in balance:

  1. What happened to trigger this feeling? For example, did you change jobs, get a promotion, move to a new house or new country and fall out of your old routine?

  2. Which part of your life feels the most neglected? Think of the all the essential parts that make up a successful life: health, your career and purpose, finances, living space, friends and family, recreation and fun, personal growth and development. Make a list. Writing things down can be more powerful than just thinking about them. If necessary, ask your friends or family to help you by telling you what they observe is important to you. Often they can see more from the 'outside.'

  3. If you could choose only one area from your list to put all your energy into, which one would it be?

  4. If you need some extra help, you can ask yourself these questions:
    a. What is the one thing that is really important to me in life
    b. What do I need to have in order to be ME?

  5. Regarding your choice in #3 above, ask yourself:" What price am I paying for neglecting this?" What is suffering - is it your health, your family, your soul, your own personal growth or your home?

  6. What one thing could you do that would make the biggest difference to you now? Would it be getting some exercise, chatting with a friend, cleaning your flat or getting a little more organized in an area that is important to you?

  7. How can you find time to take some action towards change?

  8. What might you need to say 'No' to? For example, saying 'no' to an offer to go out when, in fact, what you need is time for yourself.

  9. Who could you talk to? Whose assistance would be helpful?

Remember to allow yourself time and patience to turn this around. Be kind to yourself as you learn to make yourself a priority. You might have to start with only five minutes per day, or every other day until slowly you can carve out more and more time for yourself. Aim for 30 minutes per day. Accept that if you do not take care of yourself, nobody else will either.

Even the best executives can sometimes lose perspective or become over-confident in their decision-making skills. This can lead to costly mistakes that affect the entire company. Against the backdrop of rapid changes and global expansion in the business world, executives more now than ever, have to be sharp, aware and innovative in the Now. An Executive Coach can give you an edge in dealing with the day-to-day decisions and challenges. Believe that the future can be better than the present and that you have the power to make it so!

Hiring an Executive Coach is a wise investment in your future. You need to make the best decisions you can in order to take your company or division to a new level. Imagine the advantage of having an experienced, objective coach who is in your court and, unlike mentors or peers at work, is not in competition with you.

You may think coaching would take too much of your time, but actually the time coaching takes more than pays for itself. When you work closely with your coach, you get both intangible and tangible benefits that you never thought possible for yourself and your company.

What are The Perks of Having an Executive Coach?
There are many. Executive coaching is about you, but it is also about your entire division and the whole company. The benefits trickle down to the organization and create impressive improvements that will make everyone feel more fulfilled and inspired with their role. So, what are the benefits of investing in an executive coach?
  • It breaks the limitations that many senior-level executives have, which prevent them from making more successful decisions for the business. With the help of a coach, you can increase and improve your current skills in a 1:1 method and surpass the previous successes you have had.
  • A coach helps bring back the confidence that executives lose at some point in their career. With the help of a coach, you are able to authentically reaffirm your confidence from “higher ground.”
  • In situations where you are aware of the cause of a problem, but don’t know how to fix it, a coach can help you discover new and strategic moves. You will be able to take on issues that seemed impossible before and apply new ways of thinking that lead to solutions.
An Executive Coach can do a lot of positive things for your career and for your company. If you’re looking for the best coaches to help you, then give The Coaching Group of Switzerland a call. We offer coaching services in person in both Zurich and Lausanne and, via phone or Skype, we can talk with you anywhere in Switzerland or in the world. In Business the Right Attitude is Vital to Success – In Your Personal Life the Right Attitude is Vital to Success

With the quickly changing business environment, it is important to stay focused on the challenges that you will face in the future. Remember what worked for you before may not give you future success. In the USA and United Kingdom it is standard practice for individuals and professionals to work with a coach when looking to reduce weakness and highlight strengths.  This approach is arriving in Switzerland now!
It is not about asking "Why," but about asking, "What can I do about it?"

In business the right attitude is vital to success.

Your outlook and behaviour will have a major impact on your staff. It’s impossible for you to do everything alone. You need other people to help you. This means success will only happen if your staff is motivated to help you achieve success. Employees that feel neglected or have no idea about the company’s larger vision will take less pride in what they are doing. We will help you maximize your human resources and inspire and motivate your staff.

In your personal life the right attitude is vital to success.

Your outlook and behaviour will have a major impact on your personal life. If your behaviour patterns hold you back from a healthy and realistic work-life balance, it is time to change those patterns that are limiting you. Every human being has ‘self-sabotage’ routines built into their behaviour patterns. It is up to you to explore those routines and change or replace them with more empowering ones. Your life at home will benefit and this spills over to your work life. It is a win-win, no brainer!

Being around an inspired and motivated person gives you energy – Why not be one yourself?

Whether you are considering coaching for the first time or have already had it in the past, be open-minded.
  • The company or boss with the best ideas is usually the one that gets the most profits.
  • The individual who knows how to balance work and life is usually the happiest.

Determine your realistic short-term and long-term objectives. If you need a second opinion or do not have any idea what to do next, we will help you off the starting block. Book one of our coaches for a complimentary introduction chat to coaching.
